Pohutukawa Coast Shopping Centre
Beachlands, to the southeast of Auckland, has seen much development over recent years. One such development is the Pohutukawa Coast Shopping Centre that was featured in the August-September edition of the Business North paper, by Waterford Press.
KGA has been involved with geotechnical investigation across Beachlands for both residential and commercial subdivisions, including the Pohutukawa Coast Shopping Centre. (Click here, to see the Waterford Press article)
KGA was brought in during the early stages of the earthworks to provide geotechnical testing and ongoing advice during the site formation works. As part of this, KGA also provided design details for the dams for the stormwater ponds that were created for the development.
Earthworks began in October 2015 and ran through until December 2016, with KGA making regular visits to conduct quality control progress checks. Geotechnical monitoring of earthworks is an important aspect of any earthworks project, whether it be for a single dwelling or for a large subdivision. Geotechnical investigations check discrete points across a site by drilling boreholes, however, there can be irregularities in the ground which are not immediately apparent. The inspections undertaken by the geotechnical engineers check that the ground conditions are as assumed from the geotechnical investigation. The earthworks monitoring will check for any irregularities and a solution can be put in place to address the issue. At Beachlands, KGA undertook inspections to check that fill was being placed to the required standard, the creation of the dam for the stormwater pond and for the ground conditions in the building foundations.
KGA were happy to take part in this project and it is pleasing to see it come to completion in the form of the finished development.
